>> Decades Edition - Wrap Up: The 1970s Defeat the 1990s!
Which of the last four decades produced the best films? Help us choose by voting in Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh's March Movie Madness! We're using the NCAA basketball tournament as a model, but our four divisions are 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. 32 films total, 8 in each division.
How to Play
Vote for your picks in each bracket for each round. You can vote online or using a paper ballot. There are no prizes, just the fun of arguing with your friends.
Voting Dates:
- First Round: March 3 - 7
- Sweet Sixteen: March 10 - 14
- Elite Eight: March 17 - 21
- Final Four: March 24 - 28
- Finals: March 31 - April 4
- Winning Film Announced: April 6
Our Methods
We used a variety of resources, such as The New York Times Guide to the Best 1000 Movies Ever Made (also on the New York Times website), the Times Online: The 100 Best Films of the Decade, and the list of films nominated in the Academy Award category of Best Picture to compile a list of possible films. CLP staff voted to determine the final list of films. Seeding is based on domestic gross box office figures. And yes, we know we left out a lot of really great films and included some that would never have made your list.
Fun Stuff
Every film in the competition is available through the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. Be sure to check the March Movie Madness website for trivia, commentary, and updates related to the contest.
